Tykes Karate (4-6 yrs)
Our karate tykes program guides kids ages 4-6 through basic karate techniques and provides the foundation for important life skills.
Our Tykes karate program is designed for children 4 to 6 years of age. It guides students through basic karate techniques and provides the foundation for important life skills, including:
- Respect for others
- Self-control
- Positive attitude
Self-defense training is also an important part of our tykes program with a focus on learning personal safety skills.
The DOUVRIS Martial Arts Tykes Karate program introduces tykes to the adventures of basic karate techniques while teaching them life skills and improved body awareness and self-control.
Our Tykes Program Prepares Them for School
Our Tykes Karate program prepares children for learning in a classroom by teaching them etiquette and self-respect. Tykes learn how to listen attentively through positive reinforcement by our master karate instructors. To help them easily transition into pre-school and Kindergarten, the DOUVRIS experience teaches tykes courtesy, respect, discipline as well as teaches them the difference between when to be having fun and playing around and when to be calm and settled.
Karate and Life Skills
Our Tykes Karate program includes katas and drills as well as fun games to keep the tykes interested and focused while they learn new skills in a supportive and positive environment with children their age. The katas and games we play in class are designed to strengthen their bodies, as well as develop their balance, coordination and body-awareness. Our small class sizes ensure that each child receives the attention they need to learn the fundamentals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, so that they can handle problems and questions commonly encountered in daily activities.
Karate Teaches Good Discipline
Along with teaching tykes life skills and body awareness, the DOUVRIS Tykes Karate program also reinforces good discipline in our students. Our knowledgeable black belt instructors are qualified to command attention by portraying self-confidence and by being an authoritative figure in your child’s life. Our strong, self-confident instructors teach your child how to behave and how they should be representing themselves to others. A lot of our tykes admire our instructors and look-up to them as a positive role model because of how our DOUVRIS instructors portray themselves in class and around the Dojo. Tykes also see older children and how well mannered they are and try their best to mimic the behaviours of these students so that they feel like a “big boy” or a “big girl” and fit in with their peers.
The Rewards Earned in Karate
Everybody needs encouragement and praise for a job well done, especially children. Positive reinforcement is the best way to educate children and show them how to behave. Our karate programs are intended to teach children the feeling of personal satisfaction from within themselves by giving them the opportunity to demonstrate good behaviour and karate technique. By completing and passing belt grading tests, children feel the reward and gain self-satisfaction from each belt level they achieve. Once a child reaches the next belt level, they have the desire to do better and improve so that they can again feel that same emotion of passing and gaining a new belt and for doing a job well done!
